Josiah Queen's Damascus Road Debuts No. 1 on Top Christian Albums

Josiah Queen's Damascus Road debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart dated November 7, 2026, with 27,000 equivalent album units in its first week. It is his third No. 1 start in three years, and the best Top Christian Albums debut by units since Brandon Lake's King of Hearts opened with 37,000 in June 2025, according to Billboard. This guide covers what the chart shows, what the numbers mean, and who else sits in the top 10.
The quick version
- Chart and date: Top Christian Albums, week of November 7, 2026. The tracking week ran October 23 to 29, per Billboard and Luminate.
- First-week units: 27,000 equivalent album units. Billboard 200 rank: No. 16, which Billboard calls the top debut for a Christian album on that chart this year.
- Three for three: The Prodigal (2024) opened with 4,000 units and Mt. Zion (2025) with 15,000. All three started at No. 1, which makes the 23-year-old the first act to open at No. 1 on this chart in three consecutive years since Billboard adopted its current methodology in February 2017.
- Songs: Eight of the album's 14 tracks debuted on Hot Christian Songs. The lead single "Demons," a former two-week No. 1, holds at No. 2.
- Tour: His first headlining arena tour starts April 8, 2027, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
What "equivalent album units" means
Billboard describes Top Christian Albums as the week's most popular Christian albums "based on multimetric consumption, blending traditional album sales, streaming-equivalent albums and track-equivalent albums," compiled by Luminate. So 27,000 units is not 27,000 copies sold. It is a blend of purchases and streams converted into album equivalents.
That is why the number matters more as a comparison than as a headcount. Queen's units grew from 4,000 to 15,000 to 27,000 across three albums, while the chart position stayed at No. 1 each time. It also shows how crowded the format is at the top: Elevation Worship's So Be It was No. 1 the week before and dropped to No. 3, and Forrest Frank's Child of God II held at No. 2. Our Forrest Frank chart record guide covers how Frank's albums and songs have performed on the same lists.

Positions, last-week rank and weeks on chart below come from Billboard's chart page for that week.
- Damascus Road, Josiah Queen (new, week 1)
- Child of God II, Forrest Frank (last week 2, 77 weeks on chart)
- So Be It, Elevation Worship (last week 1, 36 weeks)
- Child of God, Forrest Frank (last week 3, 118 weeks)
- Can You Imagine?, Elevation Worship (last week 6, 180 weeks)
- Song of the Saints, Phil Wickham (last week 5, 59 weeks)
- King of Hearts, Brandon Lake (last week 7, 72 weeks)
- Mt. Zion, Josiah Queen (last week 9, 62 weeks)
- Jamie MacDonald, Jamie MacDonald (last week 8, 40 weeks)
- WASHED, Elevation Rhythm (last week 4, 15 weeks)
Two things stand out. First, the list is mostly albums that are months or years old. A Christian album can stay in the top 10 for a long time because streaming keeps counting every week. Second, Queen now has three albums on the chart at once inside the top 11: Damascus Road at No. 1, Mt. Zion at No. 8 and The Prodigal at No. 11, which has 127 weeks on the chart.
The songs behind the album
Billboard reports that "Demons," the album's lead release, holds at No. 2 on Hot Christian Songs with 2.6 million official streams and 3.2 million in radio audience. Other tracks on the chart: "Amazing," with Elevation Rhythm, at No. 5; "Out of Breath," the top new entry, at No. 9; "Sundays" at No. 11; and "Make Heaven Crowded" at No. 20. Queen has eight career top 10s on that list. If you want to understand how a song gets those numbers, see our Hot Christian Songs chart explainer.
Billboard also notes that "Dusty Bibles," from Mt. Zion, became Queen's first Billboard Hot 100 entry last November and won Song of the Year at the 2026 GMA Dove Awards in October. Our 2026 Dove Awards winners guide lists the other winners from that night.
How big is 27,000 units?
For context from the same Billboard report: it is below Brandon Lake's 37,000 in June 2025 but above anything else a Christian album has opened with on the Billboard 200 this year. Billboard also says Queen reached three No. 1 debuts faster than any other act since the formula moved beyond sales-only measurement. Including collaborative albums, only four other acts have had at least three No. 1 entries in a similar span: Elevation Worship (six), Lecrae, NeedToBreathe and TobyMac (three each).
What this does not tell you is lifetime popularity. A chart debut is one week of tracking. Whether Damascus Road stays high depends on streaming over the following weeks, and the next real test arrives soon: Forrest Frank's The Jesus Generation is announced for December 4, according to Christian Post and other outlets. We will not guess at its first week.
How to read a Christian albums chart yourself
- Check the chart date. Billboard dates charts a week or so after the tracking period, so "week of November 7" covers October 23 to 29.
- Look at last-week rank and weeks on chart. A new entry at No. 1 and a 180-week catalog album mean different things.
- Look for the unit number. Billboard reports it for the biggest debuts. A rank alone does not show how close the race was.
- Separate albums from songs. Top Christian Albums and Hot Christian Songs use different formulas.
