Here are four important truths about marriage that every couple should know.
like christ and the church
The apostle Paul declared that the relationship between Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, and the church, the bride of Christ, is like a marriage between a man and a woman. It’s a deep mystery in many ways, but in other ways, it’s crystal clear. Jesus as the bridegroom is the head of his bride, the church; Yet, he loved his bride so much that he laid down his life for her (Mark 10:45), so Paul tells husbands, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” (Eph 5:25) and “Let the wife see that she respects her husband” (Eph 5:33b).
a triple cord
The Bible says that it was not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). “The rib that Jehovah God took out of the man and made it into a woman, and brought it to the man.” (Gen. 2:22). This proves that “two are better than one, for their labor is well rewarded” (Ecclesiastes 4:9), “And even if one is stronger than one, yet two can withstand him; the triple cord does not break at once.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12). If you and your spouse put God first, that is a three string that does not break easily, but a double string breaks very easily.
drop and cut
When God brought Eve to Adam, He said to them, “A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). If a man does not leave his father and mother, that is, if he does not leave them outside his new family, then he has not really left his father and mother. “dad and mom” and can’t hold “Fasting for my wife.” Of course, the same applies to women. They have to leave their families and cling to their spouses as they are now “a meat” (Mark 10:8).
learn to forgive
An elderly couple sitting together at the airport is asked by a young couple holding hands, “What’s your secret to a long marriage?” The man paused and thought for a moment, but his wife spoke at once and said, “Learn to forgive.” If we don’t learn to forgive our spouses as they should us, we are bound to hold grudges and that will never enrich any marriage. Learn to forgive, because we have been forgiven much more.
